The Million Dollar Quartet.

They met as a group only once, by chance.

And they managed to hold the best musical jam session of all time.

The Date: December 4, 1956.

The Place: Sam Phillips’ Sun Records, Memphis.  Some claim that this is where rock ‘n roll was born.

They were: Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley.

No agents, no lawyers, no fans, just music.

You might have seen The Million Dollar Quartet show a few years ago at the Playhouse in the Park.  The show successfully recreated that magical evening.

Here is Matthew Cary’s map of Tennessee issued in 1814, five years before Memphis was founded.
