Hoxworth Blood Centers needs lifesaving blood donations now
NEWS RELEASE: Jackie Marschall, Hoxworth Blood Center
CINCINNATI, OH (June 28, 2022 ) – Summer months are time for vacations, BBQ’s—and traumas. Hoxworth is calling on the Cincinnati community to support area hospitals with a lifesaving blood donation.
Donors who roll up a sleeve at one of Hoxworth’s seven Neighborhood Donor Centers from July 1 through July 22 will receive a limited-edition beach towel!
Dr. Josè Cancelas, Director of Hoxworth Blood Center, says that blood donations are needed now more than ever in preparation of the July 4th holiday closure as we will not be collecting any blood products.
“As more people are going out and enjoying summertime leisure activities, our area hospitals are seeing a dramatic increase in the number of traumas from car crashes, boating accidents, sports injuries, violence, and construction accidents,” said Dr. Cancelas. “Trauma victims may require a huge number of transfusions—and that is in addition to the ‘every day’ patients who need blood for things like planned surgeries and treatment for cancer.”
Hoxworth Blood Center will be closed on Monday, July 4th. Donors are encouraged to schedule a lifesaving blood donation prior to or immediately following the holiday to ensure a stable blood supply.
Appointments are highly encouraged. Donors can schedule appointments by calling (513) 451-0910 or by scheduling online at www.hoxworth.org.
