Dan Gangwer was sworn in as

the new Assistant Chief of the LPD

LOVELAND, OH (March 2, 2023) – The City of Loveland announced the hiring/appointment of Dan Gangwer as Assistant Police Chief for the Loveland Police Department (LPD).

Gangwer was sworn into office by Loveland Mayor Kathy Bailey during theCity Council meeting Tuesday, February 28. 

He fills the assistant chief position left unfilled since 2016. The city  began the search for the right candidate to fill the vacant position in 2022. 

Gangwer comes to Loveland from the Kettering Police Department, where he served for the past 27.5 years. He earned several promotions during his career there achieving the ranks of sergeant, captain, lieutenant and ultimately serving as assistnat chief for Kettering beginning in 2016.

“As we began our search, it became clear this needed to be someone who would work well with our team, would become part of our community, and be someone we could trust to help us fulfill our mission.”said LPD Chief Michael Gabrielson.  “After considering all candidates, it quickly became clear Dan was the correct choice for Loveland and we are fortunate to have someone with his knowledge and experience.” 

Gangwer served several years in field training, SWAT team leadership, bike patrol, rangemaster, and weapons instructor/armorer. As a supervisor, he has led operations in patrol, jail, court, community relations, investigations, and dispatch.

Gangwer graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor’s Degree in Police Administration.
