FUN WITH MAPS – ISSUE 2021-83 DAILY FEATURE:
By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)
LOVELAND, OH (April 30, 2021) – In Issue 2021-83 of Steve Kovacs Fun with Maps, we visit the territory of Islands of Hawaii. Most all of us know what Aloha means (Hello & Goodbye) but what about Muhalo? Read to the end to learn the meaning:
Hawaii
The Hawaiian Organic Act established the Territory of Hawaii in 1900 on this day. Honolulu was named the capital. Hawaii’s inhabitants became US citizens with the Act. Speaking of inhabitants, the tranquility of this archipelago consisting of 137 islands lasted until somewhere around 300 AD, when the first people arrived – the Polynesians. Westerners most likely first sighted Hawaii in 1778 when Captain James Cook arrived, naming the island the Sandwich Islands.
This popular US state joined the Union in 1959. For this educational visit to the Rainbow State, we say “muhalo” Steve Kovacs. If you didn’t figure it out, or already know it, Muhalo means “Thank You”.
Aloha and Muhalo friends.
