LOVELAND, OH (December 21, 2020) – The Valentine Ladies of Loveland got together at the Loveland Museum Center Tuesday, December 15, and surprised Jeannie Shumaker with her selection as 2021 Loveland Valentine Lady.

Jeannie is a lifelong resident of Loveland and is a familiar face to anyone who ever visited the Loveland Museum Center (LMC). She currently serves as a docent (guide) welcoming visitors to the Museum on Saturdays and Sundays. Her generous gift of time volunteering at LMC counts as just one of many ways Jeannie has served the Loveland community over the years. Peggy Goodwin, a Loveland Valentine Lady herself, offered a glowing letter of nomination for Shumaker.

“Tuesday morning the Valentine Ladies surprised Jeannie Shumaker with the news that she was chosen to be Loveland’s 2021 Valentine Lady,” Goodwin explained via email correspondence with Loveland Beacon. “She was completely floored after walking into the gallery at the Loveland Museum Center and seeing all these women in their signature red attire – which is exactly the element of surprise we had hoped for.”

Goodwin attached a copy of the nomination letter to the email message about surprising Jeannie Shumaker at the Museum last Tuesday.  The letter provides details why Jeannie Shumaker is so very deserving of the honor of being chosen Loveland Valentine Lady for 2021. Goodwin’s letter points to the 35 years Shumaker spent as a certified medical assistant including time with Dr. Sood in Loveland and later at Bethesda North Hospital. The nomination letter recounts numerous ways she has served the community as a member of Loveland Woman’s Club.

Jeannie Shumaker is active with Loveland United Methodist Church participating with two Bible study groups and serving as the “Snack Lady” during the Vacation Bible School there. She volunteers in the local schools tutoring kids in grades 1-4 with reading and social studies.  Shumaker was instrumental in setting up the libraries at the former Little Miami and Lloyd Mann schools where she continued to volunteer once the libraries were established.

Sure she has always helped people, but according to the nomination letter submitted on her behalf, Jeannie Shumaker goes beyond helping humankind to care for the animals.

She volunteers weekly at the SPCA in Sharonville and her Facebook page is “almost exclusively a showcase” for dogs and cats available for adoption at local animal shelters. Her caring and giving for others is only surpassed by the deep devotion she demonstrates for her family.

Goodwin’s nomination letter recalled a time, several years ago, when Jeannie brought her two young nephews into her home so their parents could focus on caring for another young son who was hospitalized with a serious injury.

Jeannie Shumaker was surprised by the Valentine Ladies last Tuesday, December 15, but her selection as 2021 Loveland Valentine Lady comes as no surprise to those who know her.
