Prince Philip, Duke Of Edinburgh: Celebrating The Life Of The Queen's Husband - HELLO!

Prince Philip – Duke of Edinburgh Died at the age of 99 April, 9, 2021 (File photo)

Prince Philip

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh died at Windsor Castle on this date in 2021.  He was 99 then but would be 104 if he were with us today.

He was born on the Greek island of Corfu, but left Greece as an infant.  Philip was Prince of Greece and Denmark by birthright but renounced these titles as he started to seriously court Elizabeth.  He served in the Royal Navy with distinction during World War II.

Philip and Elizabeth married in 1947 and had four children.  She became Queen of the United Kingdom in 1953 – Queen Elizabeth II.

May he be always remembered fondly.

Here is Saxton’s 1607 map of Berkshire, with Windsor on the right.  As a side note, just southeast of Windsor is Runnymede (barely off the map), where King John signed the Magna Carta in 1215.
