LOVELAND, OH (January 22, 2021) – Loveland High School students have had no greater advocate and friend than Principal Peggy Johnson during this challenging pandemic time, or over the last six years.

It would be a good bet every Loveland High School student who walked throught the LHS entrance and passed through the hallways the past six years would echo those sentiments if given the chance. Today, Loveland Schools announced the LHS Principal plans to retire at the close of the current 2020-2021 school year.

“Working with teenagers is an unbelievable honor,” said Johnson. “Seeing how they pursue their interests, overcome challenges, and succeed is a most rewarding experience.”

According to the news release from LCSD earlier today, Johnson has spent 39 years in education, beginning her career as a student-teacher at Loveland High School in Fall 1980. She taught students with hearing and language impairments for 17 years in Hamilton City Schools and served as a Special Education Supervisor there. She was principal at Turpin High School for 13 years before returning to Loveland schools to spend the last 6 years leading Loveland High School.

Few would argue with the notion LHS Principal Peggy Johsnon is “TIGER 1” as the biggest fan of all the LHS Tiger athletes, musicians, stage performers, or any competitive extracurricular activity. She was somehow able to appear nearly everywhere – sometimes it seemed as though she was able to be in two places at the same time. Of course she wasn’t, but she would have been if she could have been. Oh, and she did all that on her own time, not as part of any “standard duties” which may have been outlined in some job descripton somewhere.

Don’t be misled though, Peggy Johnson served the Loveland City School District very well in her capacity as principal of the high school. According to today’s news release announcing her retirement,  LCSD Director of Human Resources Charles Ogdan says Johnson demonstrated dedication to the students by expanding the Advanced Placement program, business program and increased performance on state assessments.

“There isn’t an event that happens where Ms. Johnson isn’t there mingling with students, taking pictures, and posting on Twitter in support of student success and growth,” said Ogdan.

LCSD officials said work will begin immediately to find the next great leader of Loveland High School for the 2021-2022 school year and beyond.

“I wish to thank the LHS school community for the opportunity to work with talented, passionate, and dedicated educators and students and enthusiastic supportive parents and community,” Johnson said.
