By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)

LOVELAND, OH (March 10, 2021) – In Issue 2021-46 of Steve Kovacs Fun with Maps, we celebrate the sound of the bagpipes all around the world

Amazing Grace

Today is International Bagpipe Day.

While most of us associate this woodwind musical instrument with Scotland, bagpipes trace their roots to 2nd century Roman times.

Today the most seen bagpipe is the Great Highland Bagpipe.  And, at least for me, the most often heard song with bagpipes is the Amazing Grace hymn, performed from parades, to sporting events to funerals.

The Scottish Highlands are portrayed in this Ortelius map from 1590.
