LOVELAND, OH (July 30, 2025) – In today’s edition of Fun with Maps we review the unsolved case of the missing “mobster” with still no concrete evidence as to where he is today.
Concrete Encased
Fifty years ago, on July 30, 1975, ex Teamster president Jimmy Hoffa disappeared, and his case remains unsolved.
Hoffa was the Teamsters president from 1957 to 1971. He was viewed as a rather corrupt union leader in the trucking industry with ties to the Mafia.
He served a portion of his prison term from 1967 to 1971, with convictions for jury tampering, bribery, mail and wire fraud. Another person performed the duties of the presidency during his incarceration.
He disappeared after leaving an office in Pontiac, Michigan and presumably he was killed by the mob. One FBI agent claimed knowledge of who did it, but prosecution did not follow as it would have revealed the identity of many informants.
So where is Jimmy? It is not known, but theories vary between a drum in a New Jersey garbage dump to concrete in the foundation of a building and points in between.
This is map of Michigan from 1841 is by Tanner. It shows Pontiac north of Detroit.
