FUN WITH MAPS – ISSUE 2021-190 DAILY FEATURE:

By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)

LOVELAND, OH (October 1, 2021) – In Issue 2021-190 of Steve Kovacs Fun with Maps, we celebrate a Disney anniversary.

50 YEARS AGO TODAY — AND FLORIDA HAS NEVER BEEN THE SAME

Walt Disney World (WDW) opened 50 years ago today, October 1, 1971.

At opening, WDW was only the Magic Kingdom.  The Contemporary Resort Hotel and the Polynesian Village Resort were the 2 hotel choices to stay “on property”.  A room for opening night at either resort cost $25.

If you were in the crowd of just over 10,000 who visited on opening day, you would have paid $3.50 per adult, $2.50 per junior (12-18) and $1 for children under 12.

The second expansion of the Disney experience in Orlando, EPCOT Center, also opened on October 1 – in 1982.

Happiest of birthday wishes to Mickey, Minnie, and the gang!
