CINCINNATI, OH (September 30, 2021) – Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Bengals continue drafting donors for their lifesaving team during the 20th Annual Bengals Blood Drive which began Monday, September 27th and runs through October 9.
Donors are needed Tuesday through Saturday of next week amid shortages of certain blood types.
All donors who roll up a sleeve during the Bengals drive, now through Oct. 9th, will receive a limited-edition pullover featuring the Cincinnati Bengals logo.
“We are beyond thrilled to kick off our 20th annual blood drive with the Cincinnati Bengals,” said Alecia Lipton, spokesperson for Hoxworth Blood Center. “Year after year, we are blown away by the enthusiasm and turnout we see from the “Who Dey” nation—and this year, as blood banks across the country have struggled to collect enough blood for patients, we are extra grateful for the support of our hometown football team and their fans.”
Lipton noted that Hoxworth has had to issue appeals for certain blood type in recent weeks due to high usage at local hospitals and low donor turnout. As the only provider of blood products in the Tri-State area, she said, Hoxworth needs to collect 400 units of blood and 50 units of platelets a day to fulfill the needs of local hospitals.
Appointments are encouraged to maintain proper social distancing, and masks are required of all donors. To schedule a donation, visit www.hoxworth.org or call (513) 451-0910.
