Blood drive today and Friday in Portsmouth, OH

HOXWORTH BLOOD CENTER: Jackie Marschall

CINCINNATI, OH (March 3, 2022) – Hoxworth Blood Center has announced the 13th Annual Storm Bratchett Memorial Blood Drive, scheduled for Thursday, March 3 and Friday, March 4.

The drive will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Friday at Christ’s Community Church, located at 2433 25th St. in Portsmouth.

This event is the 13th memorial drive for Storm Bratchett, who was only 17 years old when accidentally shot in the chest with an arrow in 2008. He was rushed to the Southern Ohio Medical Center where doctors worked for hours to save his life, using more than 40 pints of blood. He did not survive.

“While Storm’s life was tragically cut short, his legacy lives on through this annual blood drive. We hope that the community will honor Storm’s selfless, giving spirit by making a lifesaving blood donation in his memory.” – Alecia Lipton, Hoxworth Spokesperson

Appointments for this drive are strongly encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome.  Schedule an appointment by calling (513) 451-0910 or visit www.hoxworth.org/groups/storm.

Hoxworth Celebrates the Month of March

With Exclusive Gift for Donors!

Hoxworth Blood Center is celebrating the month of March with exclusive 3-in-1 tumbler/koozies for all donors! Donors who roll up a sleeve at a Hoxworth Neighborhood Donor Center between March 4 and March 25 will receive an exclusive 3-in-1 tumbler that fits bottles, cans, and beverages.

“As the only steward of the local blood supply, Hoxworth needs at least 450 individuals to donate blood every day to support local patients,” said Alecia Lipton, spokesperson for Hoxworth Blood Center. “This March, we’re inviting all eligible donors to roll up a sleeve and share their wealth of good health to someone in need in our community.”

Hoxworth serves over 30 hospitals in the Tri-State area, according to Lipton, and donors are always needed—because “it’s the blood that is on the shelf that will be used to save lives in an emergency.”

To schedule a donation, call Hoxworth at 513-451-0910 or visit www.hoxworth.org. Appointments are encouraged to maintain proper social distancing, and masks are required of all donors.
