Donors at Hoxworth Neighborhood Donor Centers will receive a special Hoxworth Challenge Coin during the Hero2Hero event between Nov. 10 and Nov. 12.

Challenge coins are a tradition for many servicemen and women to show membership, recognition, to create a bond between people in a group, or to commemorate an anniversary or special event.

“Every year on Veterans Day, we are reminded of the courage and selflessness demonstrated by so many members of our armed forces. These individuals are true heroes, and we are humbled by and grateful for their service,” said Alecia Lipton, director of public relations at Hoxworth Blood Center.

“This year, we are introducing the Hoxworth Challenge Coin. Traditionally, a challenge coin keeps members of the military connected to one another, even after they leave the service, and veterans frequently display coins from units they have served in. During the 2020 Hero2Hero event, our donors can roll up a sleeve in honor of a veteran and receive a special challenge coin to pay tribute to their dedication to saving lives through blood donation.”

Blood banks across the United States are gearing up for a difficult several weeks, said Lipton. Flu season and busy holiday schedules historically negatively impact donor turnout, and recent spikes in COVID-19 cases are also expected to cause complications for potential donors.

Hoxworth continues to follow social distancing guidelines at donor centers and blood drives.  Masks are required per local guidelines.

To schedule a donation, call (513) 451-0910 or visit www.hoxworth.org. Appointments are requested at this time in order to maintain social distancing protocol.
