LOVELAND, OH (December 16, 2020) – In Issue 130 of Steve Kovacs Fun with Maps it’s a volcanic moment in history.

Eruption
Mount Fuji is revered in Japan. It is one of the three holy mountains in the island nation. It has an exceptionally symmetric cone adding to its natural beauty. Fuji is the subject of many poems, paintings, and photographs.
Fuji is an active volcano, last erupted on this day in 1707.
Here is a map of Japan and Korea from 1630 by the Dutch cartographer, Jodocus Hondius, which is the Latinized version of his birth name of Joost de Hondt. Europeans had little knowledge of this part of the world at the time and showing Korea as an island reflects that.
