FUN WITH MAPS – ISSUE 2021-134 DAILY FEATURE:
By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)
LOVELAND, OH (July 14, 2021) – In Issue 2021-134 of Steve Kovacs Fun with Maps, we celebrate a turning point in the French Revolution.
Bastille Day
Vive la France!
Today is le 14. juillet in France – known as Bastille Day in English speaking countries.
Today marks the storming of the Bastille in Paris in 1789 by an angry crowd. The Bastille was a fortress, armory and a prison for a few political dissidents. This marked a key turning point of the French Revolution.
Today, this day is celebrated with the oldest and largest military parade in Europe with troops marching, driving on and flying over the Champs-Elysees in Paris. It is a sight to behold.
Here is Homann’s map of France from 1741.
