Fun with Maps ISSUE 2025-184
By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)
LOVELAND, OH (November 5, 2025) – In today’s edition of Fun with Maps, we would love to “Pass Go and Collect $200”.
Monopoly
Monopoly, a popular board game, was launched by Parker Brothers 90 years ago.
Its origins is not what you might think. It traces to 1903 when Lizzie Magie cratered the Landlord’s Game showing that wealth by individual is more important than wealth by large organizations.
One can buy railroads, buildings, utilities and the like going around the board.
There were three brothers involved in the enterprise founded by George in Salem, Massachusetts.
Some other notable games they marketed are Sorry!, Risk, and Scrabble.
Here is a pictorial map of Massachusetts by White from 1938.
