This year, the COVID data dashboard is reported to Hamilton County Public Health on Mondays. Follow this link to the COVID Information Hub on our website, where you can always find the latest data. This morning, I reviewed preliminary data through Thursday of this week, and it shows that our mitigation efforts are working. We had a few student positives and only one student close contact who has to quarantine. There are more than 30 community cases – meaning those students are quarantining because of exposure that did not involve school and did not impact others on campus. A special thanks to all of our parents who are monitoring their children and keeping them home when they’re not feeling well. Working together like this will allow us to keep all of our kids in school, which is our main goal. Data from Hamilton County Public Health shows COVID cases in our area are stabilizing, but still at a high rate.
I have added a licensed clinical psychologist to my Medical Advisory Board so that I can weigh the potential negative impacts of masking along with the need to slow the spread of COVID. This was one of the requests that grew out of our Board of Education meeting last Friday. After consulting with our Medical Advisory Board today, our masking policy will remain in place for students PreK-6, with parental choice for grades 7-12, and universal masking for staff. Thanks for your patience and cooperation.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and thanks for all you do for our kids.

Tiger Team-Building
Our youngest Tigers at LECC got a visit this week from our principals, assistant principals, and district leadership team. The tour of the building included a stop in the motor room. It looks like the kindergarten version of American Ninja Warrior, but the obstacle course provides students the opportunity for structured and purposeful movement throughout the school day. The motor room gives our youngest students practice creating, planning, and carrying out a sequence of motor movements, increasing their coordination and body awareness. The exercises and activities can help students build strength in their hands, wrists, and arms that can help with academic tasks like handwriting and fine motor skills. The space also helps students who may need additional support in regulating their bodies and increasing their overall strength and coordination to successfully participate in the classroom setting alongside their peers. Thanks to LECC Principal Sara Gehring for showing off some of the great work in your building.
COVID Vaccine Survey
Under current state and county guidelines, students who are “close contacts” will not be required to quarantine if they are masked, or provide proof of COVID vaccination. To assist with our contact tracing efforts, we have created a voluntary vaccination survey. If you choose to share this information about your student, it could make contact tracing efforts faster and easier for our staff and for your family. Please consider filling out this voluntary survey. Vaccination status will only be used to determine if a child must quarantine or can remain in school after being identified as a “close contact.”
