Today’s featured poem in ‘Poet’s Corner

By Susan F. Adams

LOVELAND, OH (June 27, 2023) – Today Loveland Beacon features another poem from our featured poet Susan F. Adams.

Susan F. Adams – Featured Poet (Chuck Gibson)

Our favorite Featured Poet here on Loveland Beacon Poet’s Corner shared the following story about today’s feature poem: Stopped in My Tracks

Here is that story:

Upon taking a class, I learned the name of someone who steals your energy – Energy Vampire. I would see this happen at Veterans Hospital after the veteran’s visitor left. He would be exhausted. He would have to lie down. Another lady told me there was a woman in her office who stole the energy from the whole office. I would be in the kitchen when Don got out of bed and I would immediately feel him draining my energy. He would always wonder why he didn’t get energized.

Stopped in My Tracks

This morning I was charged with energy.

Plus Arthur hadn’t made my joints hurt.

I attacked my chores with A vengeance

And even got to play out in the dirt.

Suddenly  My Rider was in my presence.

Lickety-split my thymus gland shrank .

I could feel him draining my energy

As I went from full to an empty tank.

Depleted I was totally exhausted

As worthless as a flat tire.

Hopefully I can survive the realization

That I’m married to an Energy Vampire!
