CINCINNATI, OH (January 25, 2023) – Third baseman Scott Rolen, known for his leadership and tremendous defense at the hot corner, was elected on Tuesday as an inductee for the National Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2023.

Rolen was elected in voting by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America and will join first baseman Fred McGriff in being inducted in Cooperstown this July. The Indiana native was named on 76.3% of ballots to clear the 75% threshold necessary for election.

The former NL Rookie of the Year and seven-time All-Star spent the majority of his 17-year career with the Phillies and Cardinals before joining the Reds for his final three and a half big-league seasons from 2009-2012.

Rolen was a key figure in the rebuilding efforts in Cincinnati during that time, leading the way for young stars such as Joey Votto, Jay Bruce and Johnny Cueto on Reds teams that won the NL Central Division title in 2010 and 2012. Rolen was named an All-Star with the Reds twice and in 2010 he was honored with his eighth and final Rawlings Gold Glove Award for defensive excellence at third base.
