ALOHA

Hawaii gained statehood on August 21, 1959.

Humans arrived in the 3rd century AD, or possibly as late as the 11th century from Tahiti.  It wasn’t all dances and pig roasts, as human sacrifices were common.

The first recorded contact by Westerns was in 1778 when captain James Cook sailed there on his Pacific exploration.

Chief Kamehameha of the Big Island conquered the other islands and established the kingdom of Hawaii in 1795.

Then came the Westerners again.  Spanish and Americans plus agriculturalist wanting to own property to harvest fruits, including pineapple.

Hawaii was a US territory from 1898 until statehood.

This map of Hawaii by Hungarian born Feher is from 1950, and it was a promotional item for Dole pineapples.
