Here is the most recent quarterly Pantry Update from LIFE Food Pantry Executive Director Linda Bergholz:
The Dog Days of summer have arrived. Though we have had beautiful weather some of the month, the thermometer is creeping up and bringing additional complexities to our clients’ already stressful lives. Rising Duke energy bills, small refrigerator and freezer spaces, kids home from school and eating nonstop, the need for additional fans and window unit air conditioners, and the car is overheating AGAIN – it all piles up.
Your donations help us help them. Here are a few ways you can help.
Extra meals school kids need during the summer take up a huge part of the grocery budget. The pantry helps by having Tiger Weekend Bags in stock with “kid friendly” items. We need donations such as mac and cheese, pop tarts, individual cereal boxes, applesauce/fruit cups, chicken salad/cracker packs, soup/chili/spaghetti cups; food kids enjoy and that they can fix themselves. Special treats are also nice – they LOVE popsicles this time of year which can be purchased unfrozen.
Homeless clients living in their cars have special needs. They need shelf-stable food or items that can be kept in small “cold” bags for a few days at a time. Canned/vacuum packed proteins, crackers, meal bars, things that won’t spoil but have nutritious value are always in demand.
We count on the generous pet food donations from the community and are currently low on both cat and dog food. Clients always tell us that they feed their pets before they eat or share their meals with them. Next time you shop, please think about picking up a few cans or dry pet food to donate.
No time to shop? No problem. We can do the shopping for you! You can drop off grocery gift cards, cash and checks at the pantry, or use the QR codes below to donate.
Thank you for the support you give to our community—it truly takes a village!
Sincerely, ![]()
