Loveland Little League 13 U All Stars
crushed Nebraska 18-4
By Chuck Gibson
LOVELAND, OH (July 18, 2023) – It was the first time Loveland Little League 13 U All Stars failed to score first this post season allowing Nebraska to score twice in the visitors half of the first inning. But that 2-0 deficit was vaporized when the Loveland bats took over in the bottom half of the first inning in second round action of the Intermediate 50/70 Central Region Tournament played Sunday afternoon in Ankeny, Iowa.

Despite falling behind for the first time in postseason play, Loveland never lost confidence. They sent 17 batters to the plate, with 10 hits, 4 walks and capped off the 14 run first inning with a grand slam home run from catcher Brayden Hube. That propelled them to an 18-4 win in a “mercy rule” (leading by 10 or more runs after 5 innings of play) shortened 5-inning game earning them a day off Tuesday and a third round game Wednesday in their continuing their trek through the Little League World Series Regional Tournament.

There was enough heroics to go around the entire roster with nine players collecting at least one run batted in during the game. Beside the four RBI for Hube on his grand slam, he made a great catch of a foul pop in front of third base dugout with his teammates cheering him on. Charlie Rigby relieved starter Tate Medinger and struck out 3 batters during his two innings pitched along with contributing four RBI with a couple big hits in the game. Greyson Wagner pitched the fourth and fifth inning to close out the win for Loveland. With the two wins to open regional play, Loveland remains in the winner’s bracket and needs just 3 more wins to qualify for the Little League International World Series to be played in California.
For now they are enjoying some fun on a well-earned day off Tuesday, but will be back in action Wednesday when they’ll take on the tournament host Ankeny team who defeated Illinois in 8-innings Monday evening. The Intermediate 50/70 Central Region Tournament Little League World Series third round game will start at 6:30 Central Time in Ankeny, Iowa but 7:30 EDT (our local time).
