FUN WITH MAPS – ISSUE 2023-83 DAILY FEATURE:
By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)
LOVELAND, OH (May 2, 2023) – In today’s edition of Fun with Maps from Steve Kovacs, we’re speaking Bible languare – with a whole lot of translations.
Bible
Those darn languages and translations. Anything lost or added? Are the meanings changed? Those are the eternal questions.
Today, on May 2, 1611, the King James Bible was published, the first Bible in English.
The Bible was available in many other languages prior to English. For example, the Hungarian version of the Bible was first published first in 1416.
The Bible was written in Aramaic, Greek and mostly in Hebrew originally. As it is a collection of stories and chapters from differing places and time periods, the multi-language origin is to be expected.
Seutter’s map of Palestine is shown here, with the 12 tribes of Israel shown. The map was published in 1753.
