Abe Lincoln (File photo)

The 21st State.

This state joined the Union in 1818 on this day.

This state is named after a Native American Tribe.

Despite having the fifth largest economy among the US states, as measured by GDP, this state has chronic budget issues.

This state has a very large, vibrant city and plenty of agricultural land.

This state’s nickname is “The Land of Lincoln” (more accurately it should be: The Land where Lincoln Grew Up).

By now, you most likely guessed that we are talking about Illinois.

Here is Mitchell’s map of Illinois, issued in 1876.
