LOVELAND, OH (September 18, 2024) – In this edition of Fun with Maps we visit another blast from the past of American Television.

DA-DA-DA-DA, Snap, Snap (repeat)

Does the beginning of that tune sound familiar?  The Addams Family television show made its premiere 60 years ago today, September 18, 1964.

The gothic sitcom was based on Charles Addams’ New Yorker cartoons of previously unnamed characters who live at 0001 Cemetery Lane in a gloomy bizarrely decorated mansion.

The eccentric family of Gomez, his wife Morticia, and their two children, plus assorted other extended relations and pets, seemed to live in their own macabre version of reality, and the plot frequently involved friendly culture clashes with the real world.

The Addams Family only ran for 2 seasons – a total of 64 episodes but it spawned 2 feature films and a musical.  The opening theme song surely has to be one of the most iconic in the history of television.

We think they lived in New York City, hence here is a map of Manhattan showing the various wards, school districts, etc. from 1870 by Hardy.
