By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)

LOVELAND, OH (July 2, 2026) – This edition of FWM teaches us a little about an iconic Army that does not fight but rather serves those in need.

Help the Needy

The Salvation Army was founded 160 years ago, on July 2, 1865.  It is an international charitable organization operating in 130 countries with over 1.6 million members.

The Salvation Army is the largest non-governmental provider of social services in the US.  It provides feeding centers, shelters, rehabilitation centers as well as disaster relief globally and refugee centers in Africa.

It might surprise some that the Salvation Army is a Protestant Christian Church.  The ministers are called officers by the Salvation Army.

It is headquartered in London, England, hence this map of the city’s transportation system from 1930 created by Phillips
