FUN WITH MAPS – ISSUE 2022-198 DAILY FEATURE:
By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)
LOVELAND, OH (November 8, 2022) – In Issue 2022-198 of Steve Kovacs Fun with Maps, we celebrate the anniversary of the “first batch” of Kentucky Bourbon.
Today is Election Day
Both those supporting winning causes and the losing one’s might partake in some Kentucky Bourbon by the end of the evening.
Coincidentally, the first Bourbon Whiskey batch was distilled on November 8, 1789 by Elijah Craig, as claimed by many.
He was the first to use charred oak barrels for aging, giving the final product its unique taste and amber color.
Certain historians dispute all this, but no other person has been credibly nominated as the “inventor” of Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey, so we go with Mr. Craig.
Where did Craig have his distillery? Three counties are nominated for that honor: Bourbon, Fayette and Woodford. You pick.
The kicker is, Elijah Craig was a Baptist preacher (most Baptists abstain from alcohol consumption, as you likely know).
