By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)

LOVELAND, OH (October 5, 2022) – In Issue 2022-177 of Steve Kovacs Fun with Maps, we celebrate Her Majesty’s favorite spy – on the silver screen.

SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED

Today is the 60th anniversary of the launch of the James Bond movie series.

It all began with Dr. No, which premiered at the London Pavilion on October 5, 1962.

Although the first movie title, Dr. No is actually the sixth James Bond title in the Ian Fleming series.  The film is generally faithful to the plot of the novel, although the introduction of the “Bond girl” is strictly for the viewing audience.

Staying true to its roots, later Bond movies repeat iconic motifs throughout: the opening credits shot through a gun barrel, the theme music, the overly ambitious villain, exotic locals, cool techy toys. and beautiful women who fall under Bond’s spell no matter who portrays him.

As Dr. No largely takes place in Jamaica, Tallis’ map of the island nation is presented here from 1855.
