FUN WITH MAPS – ISSUE 2021-158 DAILY FEATURE:
By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)
LOVELAND, OH (August 18, 2021) – In Issue 2021-158 of Steve Kovacs Fun with Maps, we point to the map for a look at the weather.
AND NOW FOR THE WEATHER…
The first televised weather map was sent from a naval facility in Arlington, Virginia to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Washington, DC on this date 95 years ago.
The BBC experimented with televising weather maps 10 years later, but it wasn’t until 1954 that George Cowling, the BBC’s first weatherman, stood in front of a map and gave the forecast (most likely rain – it is England).
John Coleman, the first weatherman on Good Morning, America, co-founded The Weather Station in 1982, so now we can look at weather24/7 and still wonder why the local guys can’t get the forecast right.
