Witches

Is Massachusetts the home of the first American hate crimes?  Of people who were just slightly different.  Evidence would support that Massachusetts is indeed the home of original American hate crimes.

Some were declared to be witches just because they had a black coat which was qualified as living an immoral lifestyle.

The formal hearings began in Salem in 1692 on this day. The government, together with the courts, killed 25 people, most by hanging, but one was pressed to death for failing to admit being a witch.  Massachusetts – a name borrowed by Algonquian Native Americans.
