FUN WITH MAPS ISSUE 2026-109

By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)

LOVELAND, OH (June 26, 2026) – This edition of FWM takes us to great heights in Canada.

Canada’s National Tower

The CN Tower in Toronto opened 50 years ago, on June 26, 1976.  At the time it was the tallest free-standing structure in the world.  Today it ranks number 10 in height but does hold the record for several of the world’s highest things: public observation deck, bar, and revolving restaurant.

The communications tower has several observation decks, but the thrill seekers all go to the Edge Walk.  This outdoor walk around the tower is 116 floors above the streets.  On a clear day visitors can see all the way to Niagara Falls.

The restaurant, boasting the world’s highest wine cellar, is a local choice for celebrations and marriage proposals.  It makes one revolution every 72 minutes, so every diner should have a chance to see the spectacular views.

Today the world’s tallest structure is Burj Kalifa, a skyscraper located in Dubai, which opened in 2010.
