FUN WITH MAPS – ISSUE 2023-51 DAILY FEATURE:

By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)

LOVELAND, OH (March 17, 2023) – In today’s edition of Fun with Maps from Steve Kovacs, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

ALL GREEN

This 16-year-old Englishman was captured at home by Irish pirates, taken to Ireland and was enslaved for six years.  He eventually escaped and sailed back home to England.

A few years later he had a vision, and returned to Ireland, not as a slave, rather as a Christian missionary.  His influence grew over the years, and he eventually was much revered by the locals.

He became the primary Patron Saint of Ireland after his passing.  We are, of course, talking about Saint Patrick.  Most scholars believe that he died on March 17.  While the year of his death is unknown, it is likely in the late fifth century.

Go out and have fun today, celebrating Saint Patrick’s day!
