FUN WITH MAPS ISSUE 2026-044

By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)

LOVELAND, OH (March 18, 2026) – This issue of Fun with Maps celebrates the first steps into outer space.

SPACE WALK

Space, the final frontier.

Space is an unforgiving environment.  It is close to virtually zero Kelvin temperature. It is also full of small meteorites.

Just a handful of people ventured out of their spaceships, the first being Alexei Leonov on March 18, 1965.

He was born in western Siberia.  Surprisingly, his father was arrested for showing too much of a character.  He was released a few years later.  Despite of this he became cosmonaut and an Air Force General.

On earth, the final frontier really is the deep sea.  We know very little about what goes on down there.
