FUN WITH MAPS – ISSUE 2023-104 DAILY FEATURE:
By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)
LOVELAND, OH (June 5, 2023) – In today’s edition of Fun with Maps from Steve Kovacs, we take a ride into history on an iconic train.
All aboard!
The first regular scheduled Orient Express train departed from Paris via Vienna and Budapest to Istanbul on June 5, 1883.
Today, the Venice-Simplon Orient Express train, a private venture by Belmond using original CIWL carriages from the 1920s and 1930s, continues to run to and from various destinations in Europe, including the original route from Paris to Istanbul.
Orient Express Train is one of the most popular and luxurious trains in Europe. For about $2,300 you can experience a night trip traveling on the train. It certainly would be a unique experience and provide unforgettable memories along the way.
Train travel is indeed cool – typically fast and convenient. It would be great to see Americans more willing to let go of car travel and embrace train travel, as they have in Europe.
Here is a map of Europe from 1892.
