FUN WITH MAPS – ISSUE 2021-137 DAILY FEATURE:
By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)
LOVELAND, OH (July 19, 2021) – In Issue 2021-137 of Steve Kovacs Fun with Maps, we go West for a European settling of a large colony over a century ago.
Go West Young Man
Europeans were rather late to settle in a meaningful way in this western portion of North America.
Today’s capital of this land was first settled in 1843 on a rather large island. The colony of this island joined the mainland colony in 1866.
And that combined colony became the sixth province of Canada 150 years ago today.
We are talking about British Columbia.
British Columbia features some of the most spectacular sections of the Rockies, a wonderful and previous Olympic City of Vancouver, the charming capital city of Victoria on Vancouver Island among others.
Here is a colorful map of Canada from 1898 by Rand McNally.
