City received grants to add seating

LOVELAND, OH (November 9, 2023) – Construction will begin in the spring of 2024 continuing the revitalization of Nisbet Park with the help of two grants awarded to the City of Loveland.

The city revealed the good news in a Press Release issued earlier today, Thursday, November 9th. Here is the full text of the release from the City of Loveland: 

The city received a $35,000 grant from the Hamilton County Board of Health and a $27,845 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ NatureWorks Program. These funds will allow the city to add a second outdoor dining area to Nisbet Park. The area will feature approximately eight picnic tables with attached benches, which will be ADA-compliant.

“These grants allow us to keep moving forward to accomplish everything in the park plan. Little projects are all part of the big picture. When it’s complete, the park will offer amenities for all ages and abilities,” explained David Kennedy, Loveland City Manager.

In early 2023, a 24-foot diameter gazebo, walking paths, and the first outdoor dining area were installed. The dining area locations have been chosen to protect the park’s existing tree canopy.

Currently, an infrastructure project is underway through a portion of Nisbet Park and its immediate access streets. Harrison Avenue between Karl Brown Way and Railroad Avenue is being widened. Sidewalks, curbs, storm sewer, and drainage improvements will be made. Once complete, the city will be able to proceed with further implementing the Nisbet Park Master Plan. Tentative plans for 2024 are to build more walking paths, improve river access, install swing benches, and create a third outdoor dining space.

Nisbet Park runs through the heart of Historic Downtown Loveland and is located just off the Little Miami Scenic Trail. According to a 2022 study by the Friends of the Little Miami State Park, the stretch of the trail where Nisbet Park is located averages 124k trail users a year — not to mention regular park visitors.
