FUN WITH MAPS ISSUE 2024-072

By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)

LOVELAND, OH (April 16, 2024) – In this edition of Fun with Maps we get the stones rolling – rock-n-rolling!

THE STONES

Rock ‘n Roll wouldn’t be the same without the Rolling Stones.

The band’s debut was in 1962 in London. The two members most associated with the band, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, were childhood friends and classmates.  Several band members came and went over the decades.

They signed initially with Decca Records who had the Beatles as well at that time.  Decca released their first album, cleverly named The Rolling Stones, on April 16, 1964, 60 years ago today.

The band sold over 250 million records and is one of the best-selling artists of all time.

These guys are getting old, both Mick and Keith are 80, but they keep on going, pursuing their passion. There might be a lesson there, ignoring their hard life and excesses.

This view of London well after the devastating fire, is by Rupprech and shows the rebuilt city, as it was in 1740, from the less desirable side of the Thames, the right bank on the south.
