By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)
LOVELAND, OH (April 23, 2026) – This edition of Fun with Maps traces the colonization history of “The Constitution State” aka: The Nutmeg State.
DUTCH Then BRITISH
Connecticut was chartered as a British colony on April 23, 1662. Previously the Dutch claimed and colonized the area. The Algonquin tribes predate both.
Connecticut is the 3rd smallest state by area (after Rhode Island and Delaware), but it has a punch when it comes to business and manufacturing.
Finance and insurance are the largest industry with Travelers, The Hartford, Cigna, Aetna among others.
Aerospace is another major industry in Connecticut with RTX, Sikorsky helicopters, Pratt & Whitney jet engines having significant presence.
And of course, for sports fans, ESPN is based in the state since its inception.
