North Carolina became the 12th state on November 21, 1789, after ratifying the US Constitution.

Aside from the first manned flight by the Wright Brothers it is famous for:

• Founding NASCAR
• The Corolla wild horses – from sinking Spanish ships in the Outer Banks in the 1600s
• Biltmore House, an over-the-top estate by Vanderbilt
• Fort Bragg, the US Army Special Operations Command
• Home to Krispy Kreme
• Home to High Point University, the cleanest campus around.
