Fun with Maps ISSUE 2025-150

By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)

LOVELAND, OH (September 17, 2025) – In today’s edition of Fun with Maps, we recognize citizenship in a special way.

WE THE PEOPLE

September 17th is National Citizenship Day, chosen because it was on this date in 1787 when the US Constitution was signed in Philadelphia.

It not only commemorates the signing of America’s most important document but serves as a time to recognize people who became citizens.  Consequently, many swearing-in ceremonies for new American citizens will be happening in courtrooms all over the country today.

September 17th is also recognized as Constitution Day, a special day designation that goes back to 1911 and was first recognized in schools.

Louisville, Ohio is nicknamed the Constitution Town for its lead in getting official recognition of the day on a state and national level.

This map of Philadelphia by Colton is from 1855.
