FUN WITH MAPS – ISSUE 2023-97 DAILY FEATURE:
By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)
LOVELAND, OH (May 22, 2023) – In today’s edition of Fun with Maps from Steve Kovacs, we celebrate the birth of a wanderer and reflective thinking man.
Enlightened One
Today is his birthday in an unknown year in the 6th century BC in Nepal.
He wandered in Nepal for a period after he renounced his royal heritage.
At first, he took to begging and meditation while avoiding sensual pleasures and stimulation.
After that, he wandered more and further south from the Punjab to the Ganges Delta in northern India. By then, he was teaching the Middle Way – the intersection of rejecting excessive pleasure and being self-centered.
Later they called him Buddha.
This map by Tallis of northern India is from 1851.
