FUN WITH MAPS – ISSUE 2023-155 DAILY FEATURE:
By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)
LOVELAND, OH (September 26, 2023) – Today’s edition of Fun with Maps celebrates a popular police show.
BOOK ‘EM, DANNO
The TV series, Hawaii Five-O, premiered in 1968 and ran for 12 years on CBS.
The police procedural with the distinctive opening wave brought scenes of the US’ exotic 50th state to the mainland. It was shot on location in Honolulu and around the island of Oahu.
Hawaii had only been a state for 9 years at the time, and the scenery was new and spellbinding to much of the US audience.
The show held the status of the longest running crime series on television for just over 40 years until Law and Order surpassed it.
A remake, Hawaii Five-0, ending in the number instead of the original letter, ran for 10 years, beginning in 2010.
The intriguing locale, earworm theme song, and popular ensemble cast keeps the original series in syndication, even today.
