Fun with Maps ISSUE 2025-125
By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)
LOVELAND, OH (August 9, 2025) – In today’s edition of Fun with Maps, sit down for a morning bowl of breakfast cereal history.
CEREAL
A sanitarium in Battle Creek, Michigan is where Will Kellogg invented his cereal to counter indigestion on August 8, 1896. The patients loved it.
Mr. Post, who was a patient at said sanitarium was so impressed with the all grain based diet that he started his own company upon release.
Eventually the cereal brands mushroomed as did their sugar content targeting children.
Thank you Michigan.
This map of Michigan by Greenleaf is from 1842.
