FUN WITH MAPS – ISSUE 2023-101 DAILY FEATURE:
By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)
LOVELAND, OH (May 31, 2023) – In today’s edition of Fun with Maps from Steve Kovacs, we survive a review of a true television phenomenon.
OUTWIT-OUTPLAY-OUTLAST
Twenty-three years ago, American TV viewers were treated to a new reality primetime show that has done just what its motto says. Survivor has outwitted, outplayed, and outlasted many challengers.
Although the current locale of choice is Fiji, the show opened in Malaysia. Sixteen contestants spent 39 days on the remote island of Pulau Tiga, about 8 miles off the coast of Borneo, overcoming physical, mental and environmental challenges along the way until the last sole survivor won the title.
The show has been nominated for 63 Emmy Awards and was included in Time’s list of 100 greatest TV shows of all time.
Since its first season, 662 contestants have appeared on the show. Originally a summer replacement filler, the primetime hit still features its original host, Jeff Probst. Set to air season 45 in the fall, the verdict is in – Survivor is still a draw for audiences and players alike.
The tribe has spoken.
