LOVELAND, OH (March 19, 2021) – In Issue 2021-53 of Steve Kovacs Fun with Maps, we note the anniversary of legalized gambling in Nevada

You bet!

Some form of gambling is legal in all but two of the 50 States – Utah and Hawaii.

In most cases, gambling was legalized by the state government to generate funds.  Nevada, the gambling capital of the US, is no exception.  With mining on the decline and the Great Depression settling in, Nevada legalized gambling 90 years ago today.

As a side note, divorce was legalized in Nevada a few months after gambling.

Here is humorous map of Reno from 1931 by Caples for the Town House Night Club.  Both gambling and divorce at the Court House are shown.
