Heidi Terselic, Founder and President of Augie’s Adventures joins Loveland Beacon Talks to share the story of the one year anniversary of launching this nonprofit support group for special needs families.

Here’s Heidi’s story of Augie’s Adventures on Loveland Beacon Talks:

Heidi is the wife of Mike Terselic and they are the parents of Augie Terselic who has Down syndrome. As you may have guessed, Augie’s Adventures is named after their son. It has grown from the experiences of Heidi and Mike as parents of a Down syndrome child growing into young adulthood. From the roots of those experiences, Heidi developed a vision for a special place to accommodate all disabilities. It took a lot of hard work and sacrifice to realize that vision, but just over a year ago, in October 2022, Augie’s Adventure’s held their first official meeting.

Along the way to that launch, the Terselics found a piece of property which matched Heidi’s vision for a “special place” which could accommodate all disabilities with a variety of activities. They purchased the property, moved from the comforts of their Loveland family home. The work was not over. Despite plenty of land, a swimming pool, basketball, and pickle ball courts, a trampoline and room for so much more, one thing was missing. They need a restroom meeting ADA (American Disabilities Act) requirements for the property. Efforts to raise the more than $30-thousand dollars to build that restroom include fundraising events, applying for grants and simply accepting your generous donations. While they work toward adding that restroom to the property, St. Columban Church in Loveland, OH has generously offered them meeting space.

The meetings take place once a month on Thursday evenings 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Church hall. The next one is this Thursday, November 16, 2023 and features guest speaker Wray Jean Connor sharing tips on how to get your kids OFF THE COUCH. Coach Connor is the 2022 Ohio Teacher of the Year and has a very unique adaptive teaching class in the Loveland Schools where she teaches. Heidi says this talk is for every parent, not just parents of special needs kids. EVERYONE is invited to attend.
