By Chuck Gibson

LOVELAND, OH (January 18, 2023) – The Loveland City School District (LCSD) is holding a “Town Hall” meeting Monday, January 23. It is the second meeting of the kind for the schools and community during this month of January.

Loveland Schools Superintendent Mike Broadwater released a special message to the Loveland community and to the media early Wednesday, January 18, announcing the meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the Loveland Intermediate School (LIS) Media Center.  He stated in the Special Edition of the Community Newsletter the purpose for the meeting is for leaders of the community and public to learn from the LCSD details about the challenges facing Loveland Schools and its financial future.

Here is the text of the Superintendents Message:

 Loveland Tiger Community,

We usually send out this Community Newsletter on the first Saturday of the month, but I want to make sure our community has the latest information. We will hold a Town Hall Meeting on January 23 at 6 pm in the Loveland Intermediate School Media Center. The purpose of this Town Hall is for district leaders to hear from our Loveland City Schools community about issues facing the school district, including the financial future of Loveland City Schools.

I’ll be there, along with our Treasurer Rob Giuffre’ and two members of our Board of Education.

We will take questions or comments from as many participants as possible during the two hours set aside for the event to foster conversation about our district finances. You can watch the live stream by following this link, but only in-person attendees can participate with questions or comments. A recording of the meeting will be on our YouTube page.

The district held a similar Town Hall on January 5, 2023. The recording is available by following this link to our YouTube page.

During our Board Meeting on January 10, David Thompson, from the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office, discussed the steps in the Fiscal Distress process for school districts. The Auditor’s Office was invited to provide the Board and our community with more information about what triggers a district being placed in Fiscal Precaution, Caution, Watch, or Emergency. You can watch this part of the discussion by following this link or watch the entire Board Meeting on our YouTube page here.

At the upcoming Board Meeting on January 19, 2023, Treasurer Rob Giuffre’ will present an updated Five-year Forecast with important information regarding district finances in light of the November levy failure.

District leadership is committed to avoiding falling into fiscal distress, but there are difficult decisions ahead around increasing local tax revenue or reducing expenses. We look forward to working with our community to improve the district’s financial situation while continuing to deliver a top-tier education for our Loveland Tiger students.

If you have further questions or thoughts, please send them my way: broadwmi@lovelandschools.org.

Go Tigers!

Mike Broadwater
