FUN WITH MAPS – ISSUE 2021-84 DAILY FEATURE:

By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)

LOVELAND, OH (May 03, 2021) – In Issue 2021-84 of Steve Kovacs Fun with Maps, we celebrate Connecticut as a chartered Colony.

Yankee Doodle

Royal Charter was granted by King Charles II to the Connecticut colony in 1662 on this day.  Little did he know that the settlers will turn against the crown over time and ratify to become the 5th state to be admitted to the United States 126 years later.

And yes, Yankee Doodle is the state anthem.

Here is a large wall map of Connecticut by Clark and Tackabury from 1859.  These type of wall maps were quite popular in the mid to late 19th century.  Most illustrated states, counties and the evolving US.
