NEWS RELEASE: Heather Higdon, Director of Communications
INDIAN HILL, OH (February 18, 2021) – Indian Hill High School junior Claire Hardek and senior John Kushman have each earned a Semi-Finalist title in the Overture Awards Competition – the area’s largest solo arts competition.
Hardek earned her award for vocal music, and Kushman earned his award for theatre. Both students have re-submitted for the Finals competition that occurs March 6, 2021.
“I’m so excited to have this chance to perform in these unpredictable times,” said Hardek. “Given how limited music opportunities are right now, the fact that this is so readily available for people to build on their abilities is something I’m very grateful for!”
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to still perform and have a musical outlet,” added Kushman. “It was very cool to see my peers succeed as well.”
The Overture Awards recognize and reward excellence in the arts among Greater Cincinnati high school students. The mission is to encourage arts education as an integral part of a student’s academic experience and to create an environment that encourages training in, and appreciation of, the arts.
“Indian Hill High School has a long-standing tradition of top placements in the prestigious Overture Awards,” said Jeff Clark, Indian Hill High School vocal music director. “Our students represent some of the best in the Cincinnati area, and we are so very proud of them!”
The Overture Awards Competition offers awards in six artistic disciplines: creative writing, dance, instrumental music, theatre, visual art, and vocal music.
