CINCINNATI, OH (November 14, 2020) – The University of Cincinnati takes center stage this week for Hoxworth Blood Drives including the Convalescent Plasma Drive Wednesday, November 18, on the Main Campus.
Hoxworth Donor Busses will be on the U.C. Campus all week Monday 11/16 – Friday 11/20 including the Convalescent Plasma Drive Wednesday, 11/18. The donor busses will be located on McMicken Commons Monday-Friday. Specific donation types like the convalescent plasma drive Wednesday and a platelets only drive on Friday will be held in the Tangeman University Center Atrium. Hoxworth Blood Donor Center, University of Cincinnati is calling upon the Bearcat Community to come out, roll up their sleeves, and donate to support the local blood supply ahead of the holiday season during this week-long all-campus blood drive.
“With the holiday season fast approaching, it is critical that blood banks build a stable supply of blood products. While the rest of us will be busy, the need for blood never takes a holiday,” said Jackie Marschall, spokesperson for Hoxworth. “Though the COVID-19 pandemic has changed how the UC campus operates, we’re glad that we can still host these lifesaving events with extra safety precautions in place!”
Hoxworth needs to collect 400 units of blood and 50 units of platelets a day to fulfill the needs of local hospitals. The winter months mark a difficult time for blood banks across the U.S., as donor turnout typically decreases due to holidays, bad weather, and flu season.
All donors will receive a FREE UC blanket. Students, faculty, staff and fans of UC are encouraged to donate blood, platelets, or plasma during the UC All Campus blood drive, which starts this Monday, Nov. 16th. Appointments are encouraged to maintain proper social distancing, and masks are required of all donors. To schedule an appointment at any of the University of Cincinnati drives, visit www.hoxworth.org/uc or call (513) 451-0910.
It doesn’t end with the U.C. All-Campus drive, Hoxworth encourages supporters of the Arts to join in the lifesaving donor drives at the Art Museum and Playhouse in the Park coming up.

To Host Lifesaving Blood Drives
CINCINNATI, OH – Several beloved Cincinnati institutions are hosting lifesaving blood drives with Hoxworth Blood Center this month ahead of the busy holiday season.
Cincinnati Art Museum, in partnership with the Taft Museum of Art, Pones, and the Contemporary Art Center, will hold a blood drive on Thursday, Nov. 19, while Playhouse in the Park will be hosting its 25th annual blood drive on Saturday, Nov. 21.
All donors at both blood drives will receive a free Hoxworth t-shirt, admission tickets to the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Taft Museum of Art, a special-edition bag from Playhouse in the Park, and other gifts from drive sponsors.
“All of us at Hoxworth are grateful for and humbled by the support we receive from these uniquely Cincinnati landmarks,” said Alecia Lipton, Director of Public Relations at Hoxworth Blood Center. “Every day, Hoxworth Blood Center needs to collect at least 400 units of blood to meet the demands of local hospitals. We are thrilled that the Cincinnati Art Museum, Pones, Taft Museum of Art, the Contemporary Art Center, and Playhouse in the Park are lending their resources and time to support our mission of saving lives.”
Hoxworth will be providing cards at both blood drives for donors and allies to sign in support of amending eligibility guidelines that prevent men who have sex with men from donating blood. Currently, men who have sex with men are deferred for three months from the date of last sexual encounter, per FDA guidelines. Donors and allies are encouraged to sign the cards, which will then be sent to the FDA.
“Our annual blood drive is an important part of our holiday traditions at the Playhouse,” said Kathy Neus, Director of Marketing and Communications at the Playhouse. “We are pleased that we’ve been able to continue it in this unusual year and to partner with the other arts groups to make it easier for people to donate blood.”
November and December are typically difficult months for blood banks, who still have to collect blood products amid flu season and holiday festivities. Hoxworth continues to follow social distancing guidelines at donor centers and blood drives. Masks are required per local guidelines.
